Playing around

The girls have been asking for a poncho. I was in the fabric store the other day looking in this huge remnant bin. Found these remnants. It's like velour and fleece. One lady said she was making a throw. I thought it would be fun to make these ponchos. The only issue I had was that it was shedding all over the place after I cut the pattern. Once they were completed, I threw them in the washer and dryer. I used McCalls  7012. The girls get so excited when they get a package. Now if I can only get them to sew........
The oldest is a tween so it's been a rocky road to find clothes to fit her. She just tells me what she wants and I try to make it happen. BTW She picks her own patterns.

To Tribe or Not to Tribe

The girls really like it when Gee Gee sews for them. We went to Fine Fabrics for our selection. The oldest one said she wanted Tribal print. I am like really? What does an 11 year old know about tribal prints? She confessed that she has been watching Project Runway. After walking up and down several aisles, she went right to this print and said. I can’t believe you aren’t familiar with tribal print.

Anyway they chose McCall’s6827. I was happy because this was a simple pattern one I could whip up over the holiday. They were pleased with it also. They have issues with clothes being too large around the neck as they both have broad shoulders. I am sure this pattern will be like my 1 yard pattern top they will have tons of these.

Why buy it when you can make it

My granddaughter who is 11 was graduating to middle school. We searched and searched for a dress for her, but couldn't find one. She is at that age where  juniors are too grown-up and little girl clothes are too little girl. After being at the mall for a few hours she finally said GeeGee, why don't you make me a dress I'm like sure why not. She pick the pattern Simplicity 1212 she pick the colors and of course she like ponte. She also asked for the exposed zipper.

Because she lives in Virginia the most difficult part was the fit.I took a scrap of ponte cut the top like a tank, used that for the fit for the neck and the armhole, which I felt was most important. this worked as if she was right there with me. We bought her a sewing machine but she only wants to sew when she comes to visit, using my machine. She has very expensive taste at such a tender age. I think this experience taught her what we as sewers have always known.

Why buy it when you can make it.
And did I mention she received the presidential award for excellence? You go Tiana.

Dresses for the girls

When I made Easter dresses back in April, I told my granddaughters that I would make them a dress a month for them to wear to church. I was on the phone with them the other day, the oldest kindly reminded me that they have not received a dress since Easter. When they were with me last month we went to Joann’s and they picked fabric for dresses.

When their mother saw the black and white she thought it was to grown for the oldest granddaughter but I knew that it would be beautiful and so did my granddaughter (she's the fashionista in training). The little one kept picking out fabric with numbers and animals on it. So our word for that day was inappropriate.  Anyway they turned out really good haven’t seen how they fit yet but I will keep you posted. BTW all the fabric came out of the quilting section of the store.

Little Dresses

The girls came home for Easter and I am just getting around to posting. Of course I had to make them dresses for church....I'm not going to mention what patterns I used because basically I used bits and pieces from 3 patterns. I must say that I cut and sewed the dresses in one day. Little dresses are so easy and you can be so creative. I didnt have their measurements so I just eyeballed it. After all having them for 8 months there sizes were embedded in my head.  They were so excited when they got here to see the dresses all finished and ready.  I promised them that I would send them a new dress once a month. Stay Tuned...
