What's Old Is New Again

Back a few years ago when we gave that fabulous party for my mother in law's 90 birthday,I posted some charis that I covered  .  I was never quite happy with how they turned out. But they did what I needed them to do, at that time. I had been looking for some new chairs (well not new). I found some on letgo. The seller had 6 chairs and a huge table for 75.00. I didn't want the table.  She insisted that we take everything. So we took everything. We dropped the table off at goodwill. Not bad because I get a write off.


Without being long and drawn out, I am just going to show you the before and after.

I had to toss one of the arm chairs because it looked as if a dog chewed the 2 front legs almost off. Far worse than in the picture above (this was another chair which I corked and sanded). I looked online for replacement legs but couldn't find any to match. I took the arms off one of the good chairs this is why I only have 5 chairs instead of 6.

It also matched my table perfectly. I did buy 2 shades of spray paint, in 2 different colors to match the table. I ended up using a dark walnut. BTW the buffett is a dresser that I painted with silver spray paint. I am very  pleased with the out come of these chairs. I sold my parson chairs for 175.00.

Fab Find

I have been looking for nightstands for our bedroom since we got back from Paris. The night stands we had matched our bedroom suite but they have always been too small. Only a few items would fit with the lamp.  I have always loved the height. Now a days you don't have to have matching pieces. I had my eye on some mirrored night stands, but hubby was not on board with it for our bedroom. He said they were not practical, for everyday use. I didn't want to admit it but he was right.

I happen to go to Rooms to go outlet and found theses drawers that were supposed to sit on the dresser. I got them for 30.00 each.

I have had them for a few months and I just could not figure out how to them work so that they would not look like I put them together. I wanted them to be the same height of our old ones. They also needed utility. HELP, I needed an inspiration piece.

One day I was looking through House Beautiful and found this bathroom vanity and there it was, this is how I would make it work. I also liked the color of the other inspiration, however my headboard it's kinda goldish, I knew I wanted a metallic but not silver.

You can't tell by this picture,  I used Ralph Lauren Metallic Paint. The color is called Gilt Bronze.We love them! Hubby was very patient with me watching me order legs, buying wood, and changing my mind when he was cutting for me. This gives us utility with the baskets and also a place to put our laptops/tablets and magazines.

My Upholstered Parson Chairs

These chairs were my inspiration chairs. I called around to get estimates from upholstery shops everyone wanted from 125.00 to 200.00 per chair WHAT!!! these chairs are 499.00 each.

My parson chairs were 10 years old and because we have been on the road for the last five years they haven’t been used. They were made of bonded leather. The leather was literally falling off the chairs. 

 It took me a minute to find the fabric. Some web sites say 1.5 yards for one chair I purchased 12 yards I have 6 chairs. I had a yard left. So you have to decide how much fabric you need. Get swatches for you chairs then take them home and lye across the top of the chairs and look at them a for a few days. The fabric will look different in your home than in the store.

Remove all the old fabric from the chairs. This will take a minute, I took longer to take the chairs apart than putting them back together.Be patient.

 Make sure you have all your tools. I cannot tell you how many times I had to remove staples so its worth it.

 Cut you pattern for the chairs. I never listen to my husband but he said I should do one chair completely then do the others. I am so glad I listened.

Here is my finished chair. I am not really pleased with my fabric choice. I am not going to stud my chairs becasue I will redo them with velvet. I needed to get these done for Thanksgiving.

Everything Old is New Again

I recently covered an old leather chair in my study. I didn't take a before and after picture of it because I always forget. My niece came over and saw the chair and loved it. She had been after me to cover a chair that belonged to her grandmother.  When I saw the chair I wanted to say "Honey you need to donate this chair" but because it had sentimental value to her, I didn't say what I was thinking. I am trying to work on my say what ever I am thinking attitude. LOL

I surprised myself because it really turned out better that I thought. We purchased the fabric from Lewis Textiles here in Atlanta. She paid about 20.00 per yard for it.  I really wanted some type of stripe taffeta, I thought it would make the chair pop. We couldn't find any in her color scheme. So she selected the orange. I was out shopping and found the piping. I paid 2.00 for a 20 yard roll. I think it gave the chair a little drama, and the pop that I wanted.
