HAPPY NEW YEAR, HAPPY SEWING

I have always wanted a color block dress. I was watching Veep a while ago.  Julia Dreyfus had this Fendi dress original price 1,700.  I saved it in my idea folder.

The other day I was clearing out a bin and found several pieces of ponte fabric. The pieces were too small to make anything but too big to toss. So I decided to make this dress. I had this pattern Simplicity 1314 and decided to give it a try. First of all I had size 14 to 22. I cut the 14. I didn't do a FBA adjustment because of the stretch of the ponte. I rather have it large than small. I based it using 5/8 seam allowance. Then tried it on. But because it was a new pattern, and I was using ponte and, I didn't do a muslin fit, I was taking a chance with the fit. Lucky for me it was too big in some areas but just right in the bust.
I finished the hem in color block as well.

Long story short, I think one color block dress is enough. I like the way it turned out and I love the pattern but will try something else the next time.

Love the dress and it looks great on you! Thank you for reviewing this on Patternreview.com. I'm searching for a new dress pattern to use for my son's August wedding and it's such a great help to see pictures of the garments sewn and a "real" person wearing them.
