HAPPY EASTER

Just wanted to do a quick post to say Happy Easter. I managed to make a few dresses for the grand kids before I got back on the road. I can only share the pattern # for one of them.
Guess what I am in NYC. I am in the heart of the garment district. How great this that? More to come.
6020
Mc Calls????
Pattern Description: Mc Calls 6020 Girls Dresses
Pattern Sizing: 8
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? It was easy.
Fabric Used: I used quilting calico
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: none
Conclusion: I always make the granddaughters Easter Dresses. Theses came out really great. Don't know the pattern number for the other dress but it was easy as well. The girls told me the colors they wanted. I took the ball and ran with it.

Scandal Obsession

OK I admit it, I Am obsessed with Scandal.
The cloths that Olivia Pope wears are just so awesome. I especially love this Valentino Jacket she has on in this episode.
So I decided to make one. Although my jacket is close. Its in no way Valentino. I used Vogue 8865. Added the zipper and used this chain belt I had. I thought the chain made my jacket look a little more like ready to wear. I had gone to every fabric store looking for this wool. Her jacket looks like wool crepe. My jacket is a tropical wool suiting, close enough. I should re-name my blog the copy cat seamstress. :)

COLORS FOR SPRING

We have been hearing about the greens for spring. I always go on Pantone's web site to see what the colors are for spring. It appears that these are the colors the designers use. Then I go to my stash to check out what I have. since I joined the ready to wear busters, I haven't purchased any ready to wear, what so ever. I am so proud of my self. Hubby is too.

Do you have to go shopping or do you have these in your fabric stash??? I have the Emerald, Monaco Blue and the Poppy Red. Don't forget to check your closet:)

LAFAYETTE 148

This is the top the model below is wearing
I had the pleasure of going to a fashion show yesterday at Neiman Marcus. You know that I surf the web to get inspiration for my sewing. This designer Edward Wilkerson of Lafayette148NY did some lambskin tunic tops, that were soft and light enough to wear in this hot weather we have here in Atlanta. I was truly inspired by the show and the prints he did. I especially like the bleeker pants, they elongate your frame. His clothes are offered in plus size and petites. I love these pants so much. I asked him could I wear them, he said of course you can darling I make them to fit you. I stay away from crop pants because I am so short. I think the trick to pulling theses pants off is heels or flats. Check out some of his pieces.  I wanted you to see the exposed zipper. The zipper unzips from both ends. This green is in this spring. Also Orange is the new neutral.
Get ready for color.

This leather feels like cotton

Some times you have to improvize

So we know that I joined the RTW buster and and I have been trying to not buy anything. I have been doing good so far then I saw this blouse.I  have to get my inspiration from some place. Thus the leopard Dolce blouse retailing for 895.00. I dont know where I purchased my fabric. I know it was a fraction of that. Glad I can sew.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made plackets for my sleeve Click Here I widened and lengthen the tie.

Conclusion: For the first time in a long time I didn't try on my pattern or make a muslin. How hard could it be? When I tried the blouse on after attaching the 3 pieces, I was short about 4 inches to accommodate the girls. So I added a piece in the front thus eliminating the need for buttons. I really loved the fabric and could not discard this project. I have had it in my stash for a while, but could not figure out what I wanted to make until I saw this Dolce & Gabbana blouse.  The tie hides the additional piece. You would not know its pieced together if I had not told you. :)
