Home Decorating

Well you know that just because we concentrate on sewing garments, we also have to do a little home decorating. I have posted before about window treatments, but I have never shared my cornices or head boards. Last summer while I was in California, I came across this fabric store Called Home Fabrics & Rugs. Feeling home sick for sewing, I must have stayed in there for a hr. or so just browsing. I came across this faux leather metallic fabric for 12.99 per yard. I thought I would get a yard for some pillows. The guy at the counter (as he was cutting my yard) asked me what I was making. I told him and he replied, well people normally use this for hand bags, head boards, cornices, DING, DING. I got 2.5 yards more to cover my head board. The fabric for the curtains I had in my stash must have paid 1.00 per yard for it about 5 years ago, lucky for me it matched the metallic fabric. I had enough left over from the curtain fabric to make the pillow on the bed.

PS. I did have to ship the fabric home, along with the other fabric I purchased on my LA fabric shopping excursion.

Very Red Coat

When my mother in law walked in for her party she had on the prettiest red coat. Of course, I asked where she got it from. It was a gift Christmas gift but it came from Belk for 200.00 on sale. Well after all the overnighters left I got in may car a went to the place I knew would have that fabric. Got it for 15.00 per yard only needed 2 yards for this coat. I am very please with how it turned out. I cant wait to ware it. I am looking through my patterns to make another coat. I have this black wool cashmere looking fabric that I want to use. I also have some leopard lining to go in it. Have had it in my stash for a long time.
I want this one to look like something Jackie Kennedy would ware. I guess I had better go on Etsy and find a pattern.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

I hope everyone had a great holiday. As for me my holidays have been consumed in the last 2 months with party planning. We gave my mother-in-law a 90th birthday party. I had about 45 people in my house last Friday. I did however manage to whip up a little something to wear to the party Burda 6810, view B, it is the top I just added a few inches to make a dress. I had on some gold ballerina flats. I thought it made me look very hostess like. I must have whip this together in an hour.
