Never ending hut for fabric

Ok we know that it’s time for our fall sewing. I had a favorite fabric store that went out of business about 4 months ago. I was searching for new fabric stores in my area. I do this every 6 months or so just to see if there are any stores open.  I came across SOUL fabric shop @ 279 Candler Rd SE Atlanta, GA 30317 Formally discount fabric.  I thought this address looks familiar. I called them to find out their location and to my surprise my store reopened. Now this place is nothing to look at from the outside and the area of town is questionable. But if you know your fabric you can get some really, really good deals.
Like this faux leather snake fabric I got for 10.00 it was 7.00 per yard but he gave it to me the whole piece for 10.00 because it was cut funky. I have about 2 yards and its 60 inches wide. I haven’t decided what I am making yet. If you’re ever in Atlanta make it a point to visit this store. Make your way to this store; they have everything from faux leather, silk, lace, wool jersey

Dresses for the girls

When I made Easter dresses back in April, I told my granddaughters that I would make them a dress a month for them to wear to church. I was on the phone with them the other day, the oldest kindly reminded me that they have not received a dress since Easter. When they were with me last month we went to Joann’s and they picked fabric for dresses.

When their mother saw the black and white she thought it was to grown for the oldest granddaughter but I knew that it would be beautiful and so did my granddaughter (she's the fashionista in training). The little one kept picking out fabric with numbers and animals on it. So our word for that day was inappropriate.  Anyway they turned out really good haven’t seen how they fit yet but I will keep you posted. BTW all the fabric came out of the quilting section of the store.

Gearing up for fall

When the September issue of the fashion magazines hit the stands, we sewers know that it’s time for us to put away our summer projects and start working on fall garments. One item that I will be wearing this fall is the slim pants. Since I am short it’s very hard for me to find a pair that fit without having to alter. They either look high water or ridiculous.I was window shopping on line and found a pair pants for 89.00. They were on sale for 20% off which would have been the amazing price of 71.00. They weren't even lined . The fabric was rayon and spandex. I went to my local fabric store and for 47.00 I got 2 pair pants and enough fabric to make a dress. For my paints I found some wool with spandex black, and royal blue cotton rayon with spandex. And some incredible leopard print.

Norfork

So in my profile I told you that I love to travel and when I do, I always google the local fabric stores. Well the only stores I found in this town, were for quilters. I mean that's cool but what do you do when you don't make blankets? Not knocking the quilters but there we no stores other than Joann's and Hancock's.Then a light went off in my head. Living in Norfork you are 4 hours away from New York (GARMET DISTRICT) and 2 hours away from DC. I know if I lived there I would be on the train at least once a month to shop. We were however in walking distance of a very nice mall so all was not lost. I got a lot of inspriation for my fall sewing. And tried on a lot of different styles. Of course all I bought were accessories and shoes and cant tell you what great bargans I got. It was a great get away............................
