SERGERS?

ON SALE
I have 2 sergers. One is a very old JC Penny 3 threader that I have had IDK since the girls were little. It was refurbished and I must have paid 50.00 for it, if that. Never had a moments issue with it. Never had it tuned, never even changed the cutter. Now I also have, a white 1600 serger that I have had maybe 5 years.  I have taken every tutorial on u-tube trying to figure out whats wrong with it.I know its something simple. The lower looper thread is loose no mater what # the tension is on, its still loose. I have called around to see what it would cost to have it serviced. How about 79.00 to 100.00. Which to me is ridiculous. I saw one on sale at Hancock for 179.00 regular 329.99. So why not put an extra $$ or towards it and get a new one? The reason we sewers sew is to save money right? I think its a conspiracy.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO???

Amazing Fit

Crepe Back Satin
Black Pique

I am in love with Simplicity's amazing fit patterns. They give you step by step instructions on how to alter the pattern to fit your body. The cup sizes rage from A to D. They actually give you pattern pieces for all 3 cup sizes. I have made 3 of theses dresses. The first one I made longer because I was going to the Athenians Ball in Charleston 2 days after Christmas. For this special evening I  used crepe back satin. The second dress was made in black pique. I needed a new LBD for spring, and that's what I had in my stash. For the third dress, I used a floral cotton/silk/spandex. I have always wanted to try the large zipper and I thought since this dress had black dots, and I had a black zipper, what the heck, I thought I would try it. I must say it turned out better than I expected. I am not making this dress again for a min.  If I had my way I would have a closet full there are so many variations. The only thing I did different from the pattern instructions was that I lined the bodice on all 3 dresses, and I added 1/2 inch to the bodice bottom.  The next one I make will not have the split in the neck line but will have the inverted sleeve's

Cotton/silk spandex

Girls are gone still no time to sew

Well the girls are back home safe and sound. I have been painting and trying to get life back to normal around here. I thought normal would be back in the sewing room. I hope I haven't gotten out of the practice. My friend and neighbor died last yr and she was a sewer like me. I inherited all her sewing stuff just got them yesterday. Then my step-mother in law died a few months ago in NJ. I just got her sewing stuff too yesterday. So I have the wonderful task of going through all their sewing stuff, I have vintage patterns, lace, scissors, buttons, thread, kniting books etc. I will let you know what treasures I find.  Stay Tuned..................
